Wivenhoe Dam...influence from Fitzy
After doing a day session this week with a friend from the Kayak Fishing Club
and learning where the bass may be, I returned this afternoon for a
quick session.
I launched at 2.15pm into a slight breeze and paddled to the other side of the dam. This took me half an hour. Once there I scouted around until I found a decent school of bass and an underwater feature I was looking for. In was now 3.20pm.
I started to cast blade lures and I was onto my first bass at 3.25pm, Second at 3.37,third at 3.45, fourth at 4.00, fifth at 4.10 and sixth at 4.20 pm. I could have caught more but the light was starting to fade and I had at least a half hour paddle back to the car. So I stopped there packed up and headed for the car. Off the water at 5.10pm with the sun getting very close to setting.
Anyway it turned out to be a great little session and I have my mojo back. At the last East Coast Kayak Club meeting I arranged Gary Fitzgerald of Sweetwater Fishing to come along and give us a talk on how to catch bass in Wivenhoe. I put that all to work today and it paid off. Plus today I took the gps with me so I have that fishy spot marked for the future.
