Wivenhoe Kayak & Canoe Convention 2009
Like the previous year the Convention was an absolute success. I was even lucky enough to win a fishing kayak in the prize draw.
As you can imagine I am still on a high, however I can not thank Fitzy enough. Winning the new kayak was great but to meet some many new friends and putting those faces to the names was a highlight.
Last years event was sensational and had strong support from the start, to see this year so many people coming from far and wide particularly those from all over the NSW coast line just showed how the word had traveled quick.
I was quick to notice that the event was more about getting together and having a good time, making new friends, sharing information and if we did go out there and catch a fish it was a bonus. I was pleased to see that today(Sunday) the bass seemed to turn it on for our far traveled friends. Alot of them got the taste of the bass fishing I love and most can now see why I am so hooked on it.
I have to say I thought the format this year was a winner from me, the shorter fishing session and more of a focus on education in facets related to our sport was great. I just caught the end of the Fly casting unfortunately, Dave Hodges bait casting and spinner casting presentation will be something I will remember for a long time as it was both entertaining and informative. Craig McSween and Jason Milne's kayaking skills course was full of new information and the Fishing Stocking Groups fish release was a real hit for the kids and the big kids too.
The slide night on the Saturday Night was a new feature and it was good to see what everyone else were catching, also Dale and Pam's Presentation on their recent trip to New Guinea was awesome.
As a member of one of the Clubs that helped in running the BBQ on both nights I had a ball and everyone else has commented to me likewise, if I say so myself I think the BBQ added to making it more about drawing people together, sharing info and again making new friends. The easy feed was what most people were looking for and in the end the Stocking group and fishermen of Lake Wivenhoe will see fish numbers boosted from the profits of the BBQ.
Gary(Hagar), Mate a sensational effort from you, those trophies you crafted were great!
Congratulations to all the winners, it was great to see those familiar faces from last year, its just goes to show you know how to fish the dam.
The big winner of the weekend will be the future fingerling stocks for the dam.
It was great to be a part of another awesome weekend and I can't wait for next year
Thanks to Lawrence, Petra, Dale, Pam, Andrew and all those others who lent a hand.
A Thank You to all the major Sponsors.
And again a very big Thank you to Fitzy
