Pumicestone Passage, Caloundra, June 2007
I spent three weeks at Caloundra, Queensland which is roughly 100 km north of Brisbane on the Sunshine coast. I fished an area of water called the Pumicestone Passage.
I Took my Quintrex Hornet(boat) and my Hobie Quest(kayak) having successful trips fishing from both craft, but I have to say it was very addictive fishing from the kayak, I am now hooked.
Had great success trolling SX40's for alot of flathead although my landing technique was crap as I did not have a net for the first ten days. The best fishing was throwing soft plastics namely Sliders in Muscaldine and Gulps in Smelt or Nuclear chicken. Caught my PB on Bream on the Yak using a slider rig thrown into a drain section of a sandbank.
Spooled one of my spinning reels with 6 pound Vanish and had easier time at casting the SX40's and more feel for the action of the lure.
It was a great three weeks and had roughly 14 trips in the yak to catch fish 12/14 times. From the boat I also landed some great catches of bream as well as me catching and releasing a 70 cm flathead.
Hope to go up there in a month for a day trip to check out some good spots I found as the bream should be a bit bigger at that time.
