Moogerah Dam, near Boonah,  January 2007

Myself and a Friend had a go at Moogerah Dam this morning. This dam is 18 km west of Boonah. All that's required for this dam is a Stocked Impoundment Permit.

The dam is at about 6 percent at the moment.

After a late start we arrived at the dam at 6.30am to find heaps of fishermen in tinnies and not one Ski boat which Moogerah is renown for.

We launched off the rocky boat ramp as the edges are very soft.We were surprised at just how shallow the dam was, in parts there were large areas of water where it was just over 4 feet. I was trolling a Kokoda G Vibe for most of the day and my friend was using a Ecogear Vibe lure.

The gorge area of the dam is just a small puddle really with a depth of 5 to 10 feet, I can remember going there in years gone by in a boat and the depths were up to 60 feet.

Anyway the fishing was slow, but we had a good look around. The water was smooth for most of the paddle with the wind increasing around 10.00am. My friend went in a little earlier but I was off the water by 10, the first ski boat started at this time also.

There were bony bream breaking the surface area opposite the boat ramp about 200 metres out with pelican and the Bass working them.
I managed 1 bass at 47 cm and the friend a 37 cm Yellowbelly. The water depth was only 10 to 14 feet.

We are super keen to do this one again now, maybe a very early start next time as there would be surface action there for sure.
