Standard Inclusions (Fishing Package) : Mantra Deluxe Seat, Large Oval Bow Hatch, 25 cm Side Hinged Centre Hatch w/Gear Bag, 4 x Flush Mount Rod Holders with Caps, 1 x Forward Mounted Adjustable Fishing Rod Holder, Live Well/Molded Bait Bucket, 4 x Solid Molded Lifting Handles, Large Rear Well with Bungie, 8 x Scupper Plugs.
Pros : Very Stable, Tracks well, Easy to maintain a constant speed, turns well, a dry ride, ample storage room, Handy well behind seat as well as a large rear well, plenty of rod holders, easy to access hinged hatch in the seated position, the deluxe seat is extremely comfortable with superior back support.
Con's : At 32 kg it is a little heavy lifting on and of my vehicle- the up side on this means that the hull of the kayak is very thick. The lifting handles on the side of the kayak are not installed on the balance point of the kayak so when lifting the rear end hangs down. However most times when kayaking we are in company with others so its an easy two person lift onto any vehicle. There is no paddle park which is standard on most fishing kayaks but this is an easy fix with you own DIY install.
Ability to Customise : There is a raised console in the seated area of the Mantra Palani this will be suitable for installing a fish finder. On the console there is also room to add holders for pliers.scissors and the like. If you prefer to have a Scotty rod holder on the Mantra Palani the screw holes on the console match the Scotty layout. There are plenty of flat areas on the kayak to add accessories such as a paddle park and an anchor trolley.
Summary : The Mantra Palani is a great kayak for under $1000 and if you are new to kayak fishing this is an ideal package for you when you take the Fishing Package Option, there are not many other kayaks on the market that offer a kayak, seat and paddle at this price point, especially a 4m kayak. The kayak paddles extremely well and I can't fault it, stability and tracking are the main features that stand out for me when on the water and these qualities are very important to a kayak fisherman both novice and experienced.
