Logans Inlet, Wivenhoe Dam.
Logan's
Inlet is one of the few areas where the general public can access the
dam. The Facilities at Logan's Inlet are first class with areas set
aside for day visitors, campers and caravans. Logan's Inlet allows
access to the lower and middle parts of the dam. You have the choice of
exploring the inlet or venturing further onto the dam once you have
paddled clear of the inlet.
To get there, travel along the Warrego Highway from Brisbane or Ipswich, as you approach Black Soil look for a turn to your right onto the Brisbane Valley Highway. Once on the Brisbane Valley Highway travel to the township of Fernvale, unless you stop for a famous Fernvale Bakery pie, most do, continue through the town towards Esk. Eventually you will come to the dam wall, the Highway runs along the top of the wall and you gain great views to the lower section of the dam while you drive across. Once across the wall you will travel up a long and steady incline, be alert over the top of this incline as the turn to Logan's Inlet is very close. Look for the Logans Inlet sign where you will need to turn right off the highway onto Hay's Road. A short distance down this road there is a turn to you left, you now are only a matter of a kilometer or so from Logans Inlet. You will come across a turn to your right, this turn takes you to Logan's Inlet and Lumley Hill camping areas, however if you wish to access the water to launch your paddle craft continue straight ahead.
